Method I
3d6 In Order
The fastest method. Roll 3d6 for each ability in fixed order. No choices, pure luck.
Method II
3d6 Twice, Keep Best
Roll 3d6 twice per ability, keep the better result. Fixed order, but better scores.
Method III
3d6 Arrange to Taste
Roll 3d6 six times, then assign those scores to whichever abilities you choose.
Method V
4d6 Drop Lowest, Arrange
Roll 4d6 per ability, drop the lowest die. Then assign scores as you wish. Produces above-average characters.
About Character Generation
Character creation method is one of the first decisions in any AD&D campaign. All players should use the same method to ensure fairness. Some methods produce more powerful characters than others.
This generator follows the classic methods from the AD&D Dungeon Master Guide. The six ability scores — Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma — determine a character's capabilities and which classes they are eligible to play.
